Iain and Elijah went ice-skating for the first time yesterday. A friend took us to this homeschoolers skating time. They had a blast! Iain was a little tentative about the whole learning to balance thing and it took him a little while to get up the courage to really try. They had buckets there for the kids to lean on and hold on to as they are learning how to skate. By the end of the hour or so that we were there he was taking little trips back and forth without holding on to anything. He did really great.
After the initial uncertainty getting onto the ice Elijah gave it a try and then took off! He kept the bucket with him the whole time, but really was whipping around the rink. They both had so much fun. It's all that they have been talking about since. They even came home and made little wax figures of ice-skaters! We are hoping to be able to go again next week.
Steve brought home the flooring for our bedroom today!!!!!! He really wants to install the floor before Christmas so that there is a beautiful, clean, and safe place for our little ones to play.
It's wide plank eastern white pine that we got a really good deal on from a local mill. It's really soft wood, but what are you going to do? Harder wood was way too expensive. Besides it's beautiful and and since it's in a bedroom it shouldn't get beaten up too, too quickly. It really is pretty. I can't wait to see it laid. We have to wait a bit while it adjusts to our indoor climate. We're hoping to be able to start nailing it down on Monday.
