The members of our humble home have had a trying several days. The fabric of our lives seems to be fraying at the edges, leaving us all rough and ragged.

When communications break down, when I'm at the end of my rope, when I start questioning everything I've ever done as a parent, I'm going to remember this image right here. I'm going to try my darnedest to channel the mood of this sun-shiny, milk-mouthed, moment of rest and repose.

They are still to little to come out to play, but the older ones are starting to explore and going looking for small adventures and I have 3 boys (4 if you count the great big one) who are perfectly smitten with them all.

Quiet in the early, early hours of the morning after a long night. Her with her hands clasped together under her chin and him with his bottom in the air.

The gift of an extra day together; a morning of everyone cuddling in bed, a vase of lilacs from my husband, followed by a jam jar full of a different hue, gathered by smaller hands (today's offering was lily-of-the-valley and forget-me-nots). Pancake breakfast with strawberries and red chai tea. A bonfire, roasting hot dogs, reading together at night.
