I finished felting a tree topper for our little tree last night. It's really just an ornament to hang towards the top of the tree since the shape of our tree doesn't really allow for a traditional "topper". I was going to buy something similar on ebay, but money is tight and the kids were eager to start putting something on the tree so I just decided to try and do something myself with the supplies I had. The bulk of the two bodies are made of organically grown wool for a friend's sheep. The kids and I have been working with it in different ways over the last couple of months. The details are all done with bits of plant-dyed fairy wool. Her hair is the raw wool that I dyed with fustic. I really wanted darker hair for her. I took the lazy way out because I knew that the fustic would be quick and easy. I really should have tried black walnut hull or something.I might still go back and put some rays on the sun babies crown. I haven't quite decided. The colors and details don't show up terribly well in pictures, but you can at least get an idea.
I think that today we are going to work on some more ornaments. The boys gathered a bunch of pine
cones that they want to use. I'm thinking we might paint them and sprinkle them with glitter for something simple. Elijah is eager for a quick and satisfying project.
