Day Dreaming

I'm a dreamer. There can be no debating that fact. One of the things that has kept me sane through the most trying phases of the building process, is my ability to see what I'm looking to manifest.

Years ago when we were looking for a house, Steve used to stare at me in bewilderment as I stood in the center of a room, very precisely arranging our furniture in my head. Well, goodness, how else was I to know if I wanted the house, if I couldn't picture how we would live in it?? After three or four houses he started apologetically explaining to the real estate agents that it was "just something I had to do". They seemed to understand.

As it turns out, we are polar opposites with this sort of thing, and that is probably a blessing! Steve has no interest in looking past the very next step. I get bogged down by all of the little details that make up the whole. If it wasn't for me there would be no place for the pipes to go in the wall, and if it wasn't for him, I'd probably still be fussing about what knobs were best for the cabinets without managing to actually get the foundation poured. As a good friend once put it, "You guys are so great, you have all of these wonderful ideas, and Steve goes out and does them." I had to laugh! Yeah, I probably could have been offended ("What you think I do nothing? Are you calling me lazy?!?), but their's just too much truth in it!

So, it should come as no surprise that I have all kinds of plans for this house. Way, far off plans. Plans for how I want everything to look after the next hundred items are checked off the "to-do" list. And while I was planning and scheming and dreaming, I started tucking away a little stash of supplies. I never purposely went out and shopping. But every once in a while there would be a yarn on clearance in just the right color, or a fabric through a co-op that I just fell for. And so a yard here and a skein there, I started squirreling away supplies for a rainy day. I honestly don't know when I will actually be getting to these projects. I was thinking that I would start to have time for them this month (boy was I ever wrong!) and next month is shaping up about the same. But someday I *will* get to them. And slowly, very slowly, my home will start to resemble the home of my mind.

I love the colors... do you find that you are drawn to things that all "match" - even though you may not be carrying around swatches and such?
