I Heart Baby Sweaters

These are old pictures of old FOs. I'm sorting through some photos right now, so you can expect a bit of that from time to time.

Though I'm working with my photos for an entirely different reason, I will be transferring over some of the projects to eventually be added to my Ravelry notebook. I am MelodyMama for those of you fellow Ravelers.

I made this sweater while I was pregnant with Galen. The date on the photo was 2/13/06. He was born 8 days after it was taken.

And on the wee goosey boy himself...shown here at about 4 1/2 months.

Hearts were a reoccurring theme in the planning of his layette. Every week I came home with a big stack of sewing and knitting books from the library and every week the boys picked out the ones with hearts for me to make for "the new baby". I'm not sure why this was exactly, but I suspect it had something to do with the time line that I kept laying out for them... "First will come Iain's birthday, and then Mommy's, then Bridget, and Valentine's Day. Our baby will come sometime after that." I think there must have been some sort of subconscious seasonal association at play! To this day when I am thinking of things to make for him, I will often automatically add in a little heart.

I'm afraid that I don't remember where the pattern came from. I know that it was in one of those many library books that found it's way home with me. The yarn is my favorite Treliske, super soft, organic, merino that I used to make the majority of his baby clothes. I dyed it using madder root (for the red heart) and fustic (the rust).

This was also from the same time period. Made from color-grown organic cotton. The hat and booties are from Little Turtle Knits 'Devon's Bonnet and Booties" pattern. I don't remember the name of the sweater pattern (though I could look it up if people are interested). I do know that I found it for free somewhere on-line.
