Because it's Tradition...

Can you call something that you've only done twice a tradition?? Well, it's one that I plan on continuing, so if it's not a tradition yet, it will be!

It started last year with Juliet; a birthday present to myself. I have to say that it felt really, really luxurious and soul nourishing to make something for myself. After the gift making rush of the holidays and birthday(s!) it feels like a very special treat to craft something just for fun, just for me.

Since not much that fits me right now will fit me a couple of months from now (I hope, I hope... I'm trying very hard not to look back at the pictures of me from last year because I know what jeans I'm wearing under that sweater, and the teeny tiny, well, comparatively speaking, number inscribed on the tag of them.) A hat seemed like the logical solution.

So here it is; Gretel by Ysolda done up in some Debbie Bliss yarn that I had in my stash. I had intended to make a cowl to go with it, but this pattern ate through way more yarn then I anticipated (I made the slouchy version. obviously.).

Oh, I do love cables! Someday I'll make a whole big sweater of them for myself. I even have a pattern all picked out and tucked away. But for now, while I still have little ones to care and knit for, I think this sort of project is just my speed.

One day there will be a year when I can actually remember people's birthdays. And then my mother will be overjoyed. Or fall down dead from shock. Either or. So a week after the fact, Happy Birthday my darling one. I miss you all very much, but hopefully we'll be up for a visit very soon.
