This one is surely the most impressive of all of the hand-made gifts this year!
Getting pictures was difficult as it is usually surrounded by a swarm of children...with block barricades and blanket motes, huge, sprawling courtyards and surrounding villages, the play often spills over filling more then one room.

Several years ago I showed Steve a beautiful wooden castle that I had found on-line and ever since then, he's wanted to get one for the boys. However, the $300 price tag put it well out of our means. When trying to come up with a gift for the boys, he decided to attempt to build one himself.

He made an inventory list of the scraps of wood that we had available and I came up with a basic design working with what we had.

I have to say, I think it turned out pretty darn fabulous!

That is fantastic!!
Your children are so very lucky and for so many reasons. What a lovely gift.
I showed my dh and he started thinking about it and he said later he was really inspired to make something like that for Cate and Si. Cate has taken a keen interest in castles recently. I can't wait to show her your photos in the morning.
Oh wow that is brilliant, lucky children and clever papa!

Incredible! I've said it before, but I have to exclaim once again...how lucky your children are! And, where?!? and how??? do you find the time/energy??? I'd love a tiny fraction of you and DH's creative energies :-).
That is so wonderful!!
WOW!! That is incredible. What lucky boys!
This is so great! The boys must be thrilled, I love that the play spills out across the house. No real woodworking skills in our house, but maybe one day...
That is amazing!
Fabulous! I just might have to beg my own husband to make one of these! Your husband did such a lovely job.
*GASP* That is beautiful! And soooo much better than the $300 one as it was designed/made with love specifically for your own childen. What an awesome heirloom! I love getting the can-do creative energy from your blog. Keep it coming!!
p.s.--yes please to more pix of baby Mairi. She's adorable.
What a gorgeous castle. I love that is can be used for doll play, but still also fit your little one!
