My Little Forest Child

Sweet, darling boy of mine.

It seems that I've kept with the tradition of a specially designed hand-knit costume. Who knits a Halloween costume anyway?!? Oh right, me. Two years running now.

The sweater is quite a simple design. Really all of it's charm comes from the line of tree branch buttons down the front.

I made the sweater out of Peace Fleece yarn. Being mostly knit in garter stitch, it's very thick and squishy and warm...just right for autumn.

The toadstool crown is based on the one featured in 'Living Crafts' magazine's Fall issue. I didn't actually make a copy of the pattern, I just figured out the size and looked at the pictures to get a general shape.

The top of the crown is a wool jersey instead of felt. I ran a serging stitch around the edge to hopefully prevent any fraying.

It was really delightful to do all of the hand-stitching on this. I really find hand sewing to be so soothing, but in general I do very little of it because it's not very time efficient. I think this was a gentle reminder that sometimes it's important to take that extra bit of time.

If you made those crowns and sold them, you'd be rich. You *so* need an ETSY shop - or maybe *I* just need you to have an ETSY shop LOL!!!

If I were Galen I would never take that costume off. Your kids are so lucky!

Stephen J and I have determined that you don't have actual children, you have forest elf changlings. Somewhere your real babies are dining with elves under hills, learning fairy magic for futures of epic heroism.

It's lovely. I think the branch buttons are a lovely idea and really set off the cardi well. I need to get hold of a hand drill so we can make some at our woods home-ed meet as it would make a great activity with the older children (and some of the parents - we sometimes get a little over-enthusiastic in the crafts department ;0).

Thank you all!

Penny- I think I would like to open an etsy shop sometime, way off, in the future. Though, I can't say that I have the same confidence as you in my fortune making abilities!

Molli- Steve says to tell you that forest elves don't say "poop" nearly as frequently as these children do, and thus he disproves your theory.
