For the Love of Layda-Bugs

Things that are likely to happen when you bring your two year old to the fabric store:
  • Little old ladies will pinch his checks and consult him on their fabric choices.
  • Middle aged women will ask what aisle you found him in (so that they can go get one for themselves).
  • Employees will seek his approval on this weeks new display.
  • You may be required to promise some sort of edible treat to make it through that last row of calico.
  • You can be thankful that people won't look at you like you are crazy for discussing your options out loud, they will just assume you are talking to the little one. Unlike the woman two aisles over, having an full-blown argument with herself and making strange fake coughing sounds.
  • You will be extra careful to avoid the scary lady for the sake of your wee companion.
  • You'll likely find yourself comparing fabrics with the color of his eyes.
  • If your two year old just happens to be in the middle of a huge ladybug obsession, he may very well lean over from his perch in the cart and snatch an entire bolt of ladybug print fabric while joyously shouting, "layda-bugs!! layda-bugs!! Mama put in cart!!!"

Further proof that if you are adorable, you can pretty much have anything you want, up to and including a brand new pair of ladybug pants.

I finally cut into that fat quarter of vintage strawberry print, that I've had kicking around for years now, for the cuffs. The addition of strawberries AND bees made for an extra-specially pleased little guy.

And the cuffs are extra-long, so they should last for a good long time. Except for the fact that he wants to wear them every day. In retrospect, the lack of knee patches, may prove rather short-sighted.

If you can get the pants off him, may I suggest patches made of the strawberry material?

Those are so cute! I wish I knew how to sew when my son were younger - or that he were younger now.....I can't even bribe him at 11yrs old to wear anything that doesn't have skulls on it.
