I spent ages picking out the yarn for Elijah's crown. Finally I settled on two chunky Rowan yarns that I found on clearance, "biggy print" in giddy and "big wool fusion" number 07. I planned on using a single strand of the bulky yarn instead of a double strand of worsted. Only as it turns out the pattern only calls for a single strand. Yeah my memory sucks. I had this vague notion that I had worked it with a double strand last time, but it didn't occur to me until much later that it was because I had used a double strand of DK weight yarn to get the proper gauge on the brim. Oops....
So I had already taken out the yarn and sat down to begin knitting when I discovered all of this...and the yarn was all in Elijah favorite colors...and my needles were right there...and I was thinking about how he needed a new winter hat anyway...so I just picked it up and randomly started knitting. The result is this totally unplanned, very colorful, texture rich, very warm, very, very funky little hat....
